What is Wheatgrass? Isn't that some weird 90s juice bar trend?

No way Jose! Wheatgrass, is the green shoots of sprouted wheat grain, high in chlorophyll and a rich source of vitamins, minerals, enzymes, amino acids, and fibre. Another super food basically.Because plants are amazing.

It is believed that in the 1930s the properties of wheatgrass were discovered, and then popularised by non other than Ann Wigmore, who researched and promoted wheatgrass juice as an important part of her anti-cancer treatment.

Wheat grass is a potent antioxidant and is an alkaliser. States of dis-ease thrive in acidic environments, so alkaline yo' body.

In case you were thinking, but hang on, I don't have wheat or gluten, rest assured that wheatgrass is, in fact, gluten free as none of the gluten in wheat is contained in the sprouted green leaf. Phew!

So, why have it?

Well, to put it simply, Wheatgrass helps improve intestinal health. It helps to alter an over acidic intestinal tract to a more alkaline environment, while at the same time enhancing the elimination of acid forming toxins. Wheatgrass is made from the seed leaf of the common wheat plant and can be grown indoors or outdoors.
Wheatgrass is an excellent source of potassium, dietary fibre, vitamins A, C, K and B1, B2, B3, B6, B5. It contains iron, zinc and other minerals. Wheatgrass is a complete source of protein, supplying all of the essential amino acids, and more. This protein is in the form of poly peptides; simpler and shorter chains of amino acids that the body can use efficiently in the blood stream and tissues. It is also a powerful detoxifier.

This Wheatgrass is sustainably grown on the Canterbury Plains of the South Island right here in New Zealand. Wheatgrass is a rich source of chlorophyll, amino acids, minerals, vitamins and enzymes. Add it to fruit juices and smoothies to boost their nutritional content.
